Whenever I’m asked what the most important tool is to create your dream life, I answer clearly: gratitude. In this article I will show why this is so and how you can integrate gratitude into your life.
The secret to a happy life
Do you know the saying: Not the happy are grateful, but the grateful are happy. What sounds like one of those trivial wisdoms you heard at breakfast or in the news contains a lot of truth when examined more closely.
Surely you know someone who has everything you could wish for from the outside, but who is not happy with their life. And you probably also have a strange friend who seems to do so many things wrong, but who can see the positive in every situation. What is the difference between the two? It’s quite simple: While the first one always sees only what is not yet the way he wants it to be in his life, the second one puts less emphasis on what is not working perfectly at the moment, but is rather grateful for what is going well.
At any point in your life, there will be something that is not how you imagine it to be. The secret to a happy life is that you don’t have to change anything – the secret is to be thankful for all the wonderful gifts, situations and people that are already in your life and will come into your life in the future.
Gratitude Attracts More Than One Can Ever Be Grateful For
Gratitude is not only the secret of a happy life, but also the secret of success. Gratitude is the key to success: it helps you to raise your energy level and to vibrate at a higher frequency. Gratitude leaves no room for fear and negativity. When you focus on what you are grateful for, you automatically suppress any thoughts that pull you down and you raise your vibrations to a frequency where it will be easy for you to attract more positive things. This is called the “upward spiral”: the more things you find that you are grateful for, the more things you will attract into your life that you can be grateful for. So it is an obvious win-win situation! for your dream every day.
How To Bring Gratitude Into Your Life
So now you know the secret of a happy and successful life. All you have to do now is integrate it into your daily life.
Create daily habits
One way to do this is to take five minutes a day to think about what you enjoy. Personally, I try to include gratitude in my daily meditation practice. Another method that is excellent for this is journaling. This is nothing more than writing down the things that you are thankful for every day after getting up or before going to bed. It can be very deep things like your family or your health, or very simple things like the delicious food you prepared today or the sun. Everything that you are thankful for at this time is allowed. In the beginning you may have to think a little, but after a while you will find that the things you are grateful for come to you of their own accord. And even more: Your subconscious will perceive more things outside of this exercise for which you can be grateful – which brings us back into the upward spiral.
Have gratitude in all situations
Apart from these small daily exercises, which one can get used to every day, the real challenge consists in feeling gratitude in all situations, even in those in which one does not find anything positive at first sight. It is easy to be happy and grateful when you are doing well and you are experiencing the best day of your life – the real challenge is to be grateful even when things don’t go the way you want them to.
When I started writing this article, I was travelling and had a tooth infection. For a short time, I was embarrassed that the infection had prevented me from surfing for a week, going to the beach and climbing a volcano.But then I remembered that in this situation there are also things for which I can be grateful: For example, that I wasn’t travelling alone at that time, that I had already landed in when the infection got so bad that I had to go to hospital or that I could even afford to ask for medical help.
Practice makes perfect
So now you know the secret of a happy and successful life. But knowledge alone is not enough. Only if you act, you will change your life! It takes a little practice to automatically recognize what you like in every situation, but the more you practice, the easier it will be for you every time.
